Paul Fleming Obituary

MORTON - Paul Q. Fleming, 87, of Gresham, Ore., formerly of Morton, died at 10:10 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013, at his home.

He was born Aug. 26, 1926, in Sparland to Clarence and Pauline (Nighsonger) Fleming. He married Helen Metzger on July 6, 1947, in Sparland. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Paulette (Phil) Holler of Morton; two sons, Steven Fleming of Whittier, Calif., and Kenneth Fleming of Gresham, Ore.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one brother, Donald (Joann) Fleming of Overland Park, Kan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, one brother and one nephew.

He proudly served his country during World War II from 1944 to 1946 in the United States Army Air Forces.

Paul was selected into the Caterpillar Apprenticeship Program at the age of 16, attended Bradley University, and worked as a tool designer for Caterpillar Inc. for 41 years, retiring in 1983. He was proficient in computer design software and designed products for Formaloy of Morton, until his retirement at age 73.

Paul was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church of Peoria and associate member of Morton United Methodist Church.

He enjoyed singing in his church's choir and barbershop quartet. He loved to travel and fish and was an avid woodcarver. He was a wonderful father and grandfather and will be missed by all.

A funeral service for Paul will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton, with the Rev. Gary Motta officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of services Saturday at the funeral home. Military rites will be conducted following services at the funeral home. Entombment will be at American Mausoleum in Peoria.

Memorials may be made to the , Central Illinois Chapter, or to the Salvation Army.
