BUSHNELL - Richard "Dick" Lee Chambers, 82, of Bushnell, Ill., passed away at 2:45 a.m. Sunday, April 13, 2014, at his residence.
He was born April 24, 1931, in Bushnell, Ill., to Floyd and Anna (Schisler) Chambers. He married Roberta Doyle on Oct. 26, 1952, in St. Augustine, Ill.
He is survived by his wife, Bertie Chambers; two children, Dan (Cindy) Chambers of Bushnell, Ill., and Terri (Dana) Nissen of Macomb, Ill.; four grandchildren, Nicole (Chuck) Slater, Nathan (Amanda) Chambers and Nick (Sasha) Chambers, all of Bushnell, Ill., and Jennifer (Brian VanVlack) Nissen of Fort Worth, Texas; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Wayne Chambers of Bushnell, Ill.; and two sisters, Anna Marie Howard of Avon, Ill., and Dorothy (Ron) Chenoweth of Macomb, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Dick served his country in the United States Army National Guard during the Korean War.
He worked for Mickelberry Ready Foods from 1952 until 1965, when a fire destroyed the business. He worked for Bushnell Tank Company from 1965 until his retirement in 1993. Dick and Bertie owned and operated R&R Creation's craft business for many years. Dick was an avid woodworker.
He was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at St. Bernard's Catholic Church. Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 15, 2014, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Martin-Hollis Funeral Home. Father Dominic Vitaliano will officiate. Interment will be in the Bushnell Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made to St. Bernard's Catholic Church or to the McDonough District Hospital Hospice Program.
