DUNLAP - Richard C. "Tank" Tankersley, 78, of Dunlap died at 7:25 a.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at his residence.
Richard was born July 29, 1934, in Winchester, Ill., the son of Allen and Dorothy Reynolds Tankersley. He married Kathy Clauss on Nov. 26, 1980, in Las Vegas, Nev. She survives.
Also surviving are his children, Carolyn St. John of Dunlap, Ill., Janice (Dennis) Rau of Des Moines, Iowa, Christine (Steve) Craft of Washington, Ill., Scott Tankersley of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Teri Draper of Dunlap, Ill.; six grandchildren; and one sister, Katherine Welk of Sunnyland, Ill.
His parents, one sister, Patricia Schmidgall, and two brothers, Allen Tankersley and Robert Tankersley, preceded him in death. Generally slow to anger in his later years, woe to he who said anything derogatory about the Red, White, & Blue.
Richard was a United State Marine Corps veteran, serving in the Korean War from Oct. 3, 1953, to Oct. 2, 1955.
He worked as a police officer for the city of Peoria, retiring in 1985.
Richard was a member of Dunlap American Legion and the National Rifle Association, and a former member of Blue Knights Motorcycle Club.
He enjoyed gardening, camping and jigsaw puzzles, and he loved making fudge.
