GRIDLEY - Robert John Miller, 87, of Milwaukie, Ore., formerly of Gridley, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, in Clackamas, Ore.
The funeral was Sunday, Sept. 15, at the Apostolic Christian Church in Silverton, Ore.
He was born May 29, 1926, in Pulaski, Iowa, to Guy and Rose Steffen Miller. When he was 9, his family moved to Gridley.
Robert repented for his sins, placed his faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized in the Apostolic Christian Church when he was 16.
He served in the U.S. Army for two years and was deployed to Saipan at the end of World War II.
Robert married Pearl Pfister on Oct. 26, 1947, in Roanoke. They moved to Portland in 1948 where they lived together for 65 years, and Robert worked as a carpenter. In January 2013, they moved to Oatfield Estates, 4483 S. E. Oatfield Hill Road, Milwaukie, OR 97267.
Robert was put into the ministry in the Apostolic Christian Church in 1953. He preached God's word from the church pulpit for 47 years, and continued to bless all those who knew him with his loving and gentle spirit. He was a man who not only knew the scriptures, but lived by them.
Robert is survived by his wife, Pearl; his daughters, Marlise (Gary) Steiner of Kapowsin, Wash., Linda (Gary) Schulenberg of Canby, Ore., Carol (Perry) Klopfenstein of Gridley and Cynthia (Ronald) Vandenburg of Milwaukie, Ore.; his sons, Stephen (Julie) and Timothy (Kristina), both of Portland, Ore.; a sister, Virginia Cooper; 22 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
