STREATOR - Ruth (Berta) Silva, 78, of Sarasota, Fla., formerly of Streator died Thursday, April 25, 2013, in Florida.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Streator with the Rev. John Gutz officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Hagi Funeral Home in Streator.
Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Streator.
Mrs. Silva was born Nov. 21, 1934, in Shipley Maryland, the daughter of Charles and Mamie (Disney) Purdum. She married Richard "Dick" Berta on Jan. 17, 1953. He preceded her in death on March 14, 1995. She later married Arthur Silva on Dec. 30, 2000. He survives.
Ruth had been a lunch server at Sherman School in Streator for 21 years.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Streator and had been active with the Tri-Par Shuffleboard and Horseshoe clubs.
She attended grade school in Maryland and was a graduate of Glen Burnie High School.
She is survived by her husband, Arthur; three daughters, Dolores (David) Lukachik, of East Peoria, Diana (Dan) Reynolds, of Streator and Dorrie Berta, of Peoria; one son David (Karen) Berta, of Varna; one stepdaughter, Anne Lee (Charlie) Ellis, of Littleton, Mass.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; two sisters, Lyndal (Paul) Bailey, of Aberdeen, Md., and Mildred (Mason) Riely, of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Purdum, of Glen Burnie, Md.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard Berta; and one brother, Wallace Purdum.
Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
