MAPLETON - Sharon D. Hurst, 44, of Mapleton passed away at 2:36 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center.
She was born in Peoria on June 18, 1967, a daughter of Harold and Judy Salrin Fuson. She married Steven Hurst on May 20, 2000, in Peoria.
Steve survives along with her son, Adam. Other survivors include her parents of West Peoria; a brother, Scott (Suzanne) Fuson of Midland, Mich.; a sister, Theresa (John) Powers of Laura, Ill.; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Bill and Eileen Hurst of Peoria; a sister-in-law, Lynette (Joe) Mahieu of Peoria; her grandmother, Donna Salrin of Peoria; numerous aunts and uncles and several nieces and nephews.
Sharon was preceded in death by a brother, James, and grandparents, Jim Salrin and Alvin and Blanche Fuson.
She graduated from Manual High School in 1985 and Northern Illinois University in 1989, then received her master's in special education administration from Illinois State University.
Sharon was a teacher in the special education program at Harrison School.
She was an avid reader, a great euchre player and loved NASCAR.
Sharon was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Peoria, where a funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2012, with the Franciscan Friars officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Wright & Salmon Mortuary and one hour prior to the Mass at church on Saturday. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in West Peoria.
