PEKIN - Steve R. "Whitey" Strickfaden, 56, of Pekin passed away at 11:50 a.m. Saturday, July 20, 2013, at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.
He was born Sept. 24, 1956, in Pekin to Harlan R. "Bob" and Velma Jean (Jolly) Strickfaden.
Surviving are his parents of North Pekin; one son, Chet S. Strickfaden of Pekin; and one brother, David Strickfaden of Pearland, Texas.
He also leaves several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was a member of Laborer's Local 231 in Pekin and worked out of the union hall for over 30 years.
Whitey loved following sports and not only was a fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears, but was a certified IHSA basketball official for many years.
He also enjoyed fishing and spending time with his dog, Zeek.
Whitey was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Pekin.
He also was a member of Pekin Moose Family Center 916 and Pekin Elks Lodge 1271.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 25, 2013, at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
