PRINCETON - Thomas Herschel Anderson Jr., 87, of Princeton passed away Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, at Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton, Ill.

Funeral services for Thomas will be Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home in Farmington, Ill. Pastor Rick Atchley of the United Methodist Church in Canton, Ill., will officiate. Burial will follow in the Oak Ridge Cemetery in Farmington, Ill., on Monday, Feb. 17, 2014. The family will receive friends Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, at the Norberg Memorial Home in Princeton, Ill., from 4 to 6 p.m. and Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home in Farmington, Ill., from noon to 2 p.m.

Memorials may be directed to the Veterans Honor Flights. Thomas request no flowers or plants, and requested instead that donations be made to the memorial.

He was born Oct. 17, 1926, to Thomas Herschel Sr. and Edith M. (Garner) Anderson in Farmington, Ill.

He graduated from Farmington High School in 1944 and attended one semester at the University of Illinois. He attended Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago, Ill., graduating in 1947.

He served in the United States Army Infantry during World War II from 1945 to 1946. After the fighting, he played the trumpet with the 86th Infantry Band.

He married A. Jean (Sprowls) Halberg on April 3, 1977. She survives.

He is survived by his two daughters, Sundra Edwards of Vero Beach, Fla., and Carla Anderson of Farmington, Ill.; two stepchildren, Sherry Halberg Kownacki of Normal, Ill., and William Halberg Jr. of Oglesby, Ill.; and one sister, Mary Lou Record of Edwardsville, Ill. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded by his parents; one daughter, Marta Jean Gasparovich; and one sister, Patsy Jean Stewart.

He owned and operated Anderson Funeral Home in Farmington, Ill., retiring in 1977. He later worked for Bureau Service Company in Princeton, Ill., until November 1988.

He was a member of the Farmington American Legion Post 140 and the United Methodist Church in Princeton.
