CHILLICOTHE - Virgil E. "Zeke" Closen, 79, of Chillicothe passed away Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria, Ill.
He was born Feb. 6, 1933, in Peoria, Ill., to Anna Closen and Hank Mohn. He married Marilyn Balbinot on Nov. 10, 1962, in Peoria, Ill.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Lori (Gilbert) Simmons of Toulon and Lisa Braasch of Jacksonville, Fla.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Also surviving are three brothers, David Jackson and Jerry Jackson of Toulon, Ill., and William (Delana) Jackson of Bryan, Texas; one sister, Phyllis (Donald) Cravens of Toulon, Ill.; and two stepbrothers, James Jackson of Couch, Mo., and Robert Jackson of Lacon, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and two stepbrothers.
Virgil was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 9 and VFW Post No. 4999.
He was employed by Operating Engineers Local No. 649.
Cremation rites will be accorded, and a gathering of friends and relatives for a celebration of life will be held at his home, 20116 N. Hampton Road, Chillicothe, today, Dec. 23, 2012, starting at 2 p.m.
