SPARLAND - William E. Finnegan, 71, of Sparland, Ill., passed away Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, in Cape Coral, Fla.
He was born to the late Edward John Finnegan and Edith (Clift) Finnegan on Sept. 8, 1941, in Spring Valley, Ill. William graduated from Sparland High School in Sparland, Ill. He married Linda (Kennedy) in 1985, and they lived together in Sparland, Ill., residing in Cape Coral, Fla., in the winter.
William was a medical administrator until he retired after 32 years from Caterpillar Inc. in 1996. After retirement, he became a bailiff for the Marshall County Sheriff's Department in Lacon, Ill.
William was an active member of St. Edwards Church in Chillicothe, Ill., and the Chillicothe Fire Department.
William touched the hearts of many and was a true blessing to all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; his four children and their spouses, Cheryl Finnegan, Louise (Jim) Blackmon, Kimberly (William) Buster and Shawn Finnegan. He also is survived by 10 grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Jane (James) Mattingly and Kathy (Ronald) Moore.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his granddaughter, Emalee Louise Blackmon.

To celebrate his life, his family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, with prayer service to follow at Weber Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe, Ill. Cremation rites will be accorded. A Catholic Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at St. Edwards Church in Chillicothe, Ill., with lunch to follow in the Parish Hall.
