MACKINAW - William "Bill" James Golden, 72, of Mackinaw, Ill., passed away at 9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19, 2013, at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.
Bill was born June 24, 1941, in Pekin to William A. and Elizabeth O'Keefe Golden. They preceded him in death.
Also preceding him in death was one sister.
Bill is survived by one son, Charles A. (Marissa) Golden of Mackinaw; two daughters, Sarah J. (Josh) Brainerd of Angier, N.C., and Samantha R. Golden of Tremont; and two grandchildren.
Bill was a 1959 graduate of Deer-Creek Mackinaw High School.
He worked on the family farm before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. Bill was extremely proud of his service in the Marines.
He was very kindhearted to many of the youth in the Mackinaw area. Bill operated a business for more than 20 years in Mackinaw, providing jobs for many young men. He also coached youth baseball. Bill always went out of his way to help those in need.
He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Morton.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Morton. Father Fabien Soguon will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013, at Haensel Funeral Home in Mackinaw. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Pekin, with military rites provided at the grave.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home Playground Fund at 8630 N. Illinois Route 91, Peoria, IL 61615.
