PEORIA - Claudia M. Hightower, 73, of Peoria passed away at 6:49 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center.
She was born on July 25, 1940, in Cairo, Ill., to the late Eake Edwards Polk and Madeline Green.
She loved spending time with friends and family. Claudia enjoyed cooking, knitting and, most of all, taking care of others. She was a member of the Eastern Star.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories five sons, Robert Hightower of Montgomery, Texas, and James Hightower, Gregory Hightower, Cary Hightower and Kermit Moore, all of Peoria; two daughters, Lafelda Hightower of Peoria and Chataqua Hightower of Ohio; three brothers, Charles Avery of Virginia, Stan Avery of Michigan and John Polk of Louisiana; one sister, Joan Johnson of Peoria; 26 grandchildren; and 70 great-grandchildren; along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends who loved and adored her.
Claudia was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Marie Jones and Sammie Brown.
The home-going services celebrating Claudia's life will be at 12 noon Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at Star of Hope Baptist Church, located at 417 W. Romeo B. Garrett Ave., Peoria, Ill., with visitation commencing one hour prior at 11 a.m. The Rev. Paul Hightower will officiate, with Bishop Johnson as host pastor. Claudia will be laid to rest in the Lutheran Cemetery, 914 S. Pleasant St., Peoria.
Arrangements were made especially for Claudia's family and professionally directed by T.W. Parks Colonial Chapel.
