He was born Aug. 15, 1928, in Hartsburg to John and Margaret Swart. He married Larna Hemphill in May of 1955 in Peoria, and she passed away on Christmas Day of 2011.

Surviving are five children, Diana Orton of Falls City, Neb., Pamela (Jim) Martin of Morton, Randal (Diane) Swart of Emden, Marla (Mark) Rossi of Hopedale and Gregory (Holly) Swart of Apex, N.C.; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, one daughter and his sister, Evelyn Teaney.

After graduating from Hartsburg-Emden High School in 1946, Dean enlisted in the U.S. Marines, where he served during the Korean War.

He returned to Peoria in 1955, where he worked at Caterpillar until moving to Delavan in 1962, where he opened the "Corner Tap," which he owned until his retirement in 1997.

"Deano" greeted everyone with a big smile and a "Hello, Kiddo," making hundreds of friends which he enjoyed visiting, especially on road trips to watch his favorite team, the St. Louis Cardinals. He loved giving away M&M's to children and spending time with his children and their families and attending many of their sporting events.

Per Dean's wishes, there will be no services. Private burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.
