Debra Newell Obituary

WILLIAMSFIELD - Debra L. "Debbie" Newell, 58, of Williamsfield died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, in Daytona Beach, Fla., where she and her husband were vacationing.

Debbie was born Jan. 9, 1956, in Peoria, the daughter of Francis and Lois Hammitt. She married Randy M. Newell on June 25, 1983, in Princeville.

He survives, along with her parents, of Princeville; three brothers, Greg (Candy) Hammitt of Alexandria, Minn., Randy (Natalie) Hammitt of Edwards, Ill., and Bob (Candy) Hammitt of Peoria; two sisters, Sandy (Jim) Mayberry of Dunlap, Ill., and Bev (Tony) Tesch of Lacon; several nieces and nephews; and a host of in-laws, friends and 4-H'ers who loved her just as much as she loved them.

Debbie graduated from Princeville High School in 1974, and was bookkeeper for Monica Elevator for over 20 years. She later worked for the Williamsfield Post Office for a few years. She also was a Stampin' Up! demonstrator. But more than anything, Debbie was proud to be a farm wife. She and Randy served as 4-H leaders for over 30 years.

She was a member of the Williamsfield United Methodist Church for over 30 years, where she was the current president of the United Methodist Women, organized the funeral dinners and served on the board of trustees.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, at Williamsfield United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jennifer Seder and the Rev. Randy Douglass will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at the church. Burial will be in Williamsfield Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in Debbie's name to Williamsfield United Methodist Church or to Williamsfield Town and Country 4-H Club.
