BARTONVILLE - Johann Lindner, 82, of Bartonville died peacefully at 5:55 a.m. Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at Apostolic Christian Restmor in Morton, surrounded by his loving family, after an extended illness.
He was born June 3, 1931, in Munich, Germany, to Johann and Martha (Heichlinger) Lindner. He married Gloria Hammond on Aug. 9, 1954, in Pekin. She survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Karl (Donna) Lindner of O'Fallon, Ill., and Konrad (Lorraine) Lindner, Mark (Mary) Lindner and Tim (Valerie) Lindner, all of Morton; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Johann emigrated from Germany in 1952, arriving on the Queen Mary in New York, and settled in central Illinois, becoming a United States citizen on June 8, 1954. He served in and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force, where he served as a medic.
He received a business degree from Brown's Business School in Peoria and was employed at CILCO, first as an accountant, then later in the advertising/promotions department. Johann was known for his amazing advertising displays. He continued at Caterpillar Inc. in the engineering department and retired after a long and successful career. It was once stated about Johann, "He is the only person I've known that could make his hobby into a career."
He was known for his artistic abilities and gifted many with his hand-drawn portraits. A lifelong learner and history buff, he enjoyed photography, drawing, gardening and reading. He was most happy spending time with his grandchildren.
His family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Apostolic Christian Restmor for their skilled and compassionate care.
Cremation will be accorded. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton, with Pastor Dennis O'Brien and Pastor Eimo Hinrichs officiating. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of services Saturday at the funeral home.
