Raymond Plack Obituary

KNOXVILLE - Raymond J. Plack, age 83, of Knoxville, Ill., died at 9:20 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, Ill.

He was born on Sept. 3, 1930, in Brimfield, Ill., the son of Walter J. and Stella M. Cox Plack. He was raised and educated in Brimfield, Ill., attending Brimfield High School. He married Marian Menka on April 25, 1954, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Peoria, Ill.. She survives of Knoxville, Ill.

Also surviving are his sons, Dale (Susan) Plack of Brimfield, Ill., Keith (Lori) Plack of Elmore, Ill., and Lyle (Melissa) Plack of Knoxville, Ill.; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister, Ruth Kingdon of Brimfield, Ill.; one niece; and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant brother and one infant grandson.

He was a farmer and a truck driver in the Brimfield area. He later worked for Gunther Construction and Cedar Co. as a tractor-trailer driver. He retired in 1993 after 30 years with the company.

He was a veteran of the Peoria 169th Fighter Squadron of the Air National Guard.

He was a lifetime member of the Peoria Motorcycle Club, the American Motorcyclist Association, Kickapoo Sportsman Club and the Peoria and Knox County Farm Bureau. He was a member of the Teamsters 627 Retiree Club. He belonged to the H-2 Honda Gold Wing Riders Club.

His hobbies were riding his motorcycle, watching NASCAR races and the Chicago Bulls, playing cards and visiting with his family.

He was of the Lutheran Faith.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes in Knoxville, Ill., with the Rev. Michel D. Clark officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes in Knoxville, Ill. Interment will take place at the Knoxville Cemetery in Knoxville, Ill. Fellowship will be at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home Center, following the interment at the cemetery.
