PEORIA HEIGHTS - Patricia A. Knighton, 65, of Peoria Heights passed away at 12:12 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014, at UnityPoint Health-Methodist in Peoria.
Patricia was born on Oct. 12, 1948, to Robert W. and Evelyn B. (Sweet) Simpson in Peoria. She married Jessee D. Knighton on Dec. 28, 1984, in Memphis, Tenn. He survives.
Patricia also is survived by one son, David W. (Dawn) Knighton of Peoria Heights; one daughter, Kelly J. Kiersch of Peoria Heights; her grandchildren, Tess and Trey Knighton, Kelsey Kiersch, Kayla Jones and Samantha and Taylor Fromm; and great-grandchild, Braydon Lyons. Patricia also leaves behind two brothers, Gerald W. Simpson of Peoria and Donald W. (Karen) Simpson of East Peoria; and two sisters, Linda S. (Jim) Ray of Bartonville and Pamela J. (Brian) Crow of Metamora.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Sandra J. Brown.
Patricia worked for Caterpillar Inc. for 30 years, retiring as a logistics supervisor in 2004.
She was an avid bowler, belonging to several leagues where she was one of the first females to bowl 11 consecutive strikes. She enjoyed bowling in the lady leagues with her friends, Paula Meeks, Judy Barnes and Barb Fuller and many more. In 1999, bowling with her daughter, they won the doubles scratch city tournament. She was city champion and her leagues won several league championships. Her love of bowling was passed down to her daughter and granddaughters. In 2007, she was inducted into the Peoria Women's Bowling Association Hall of Fame.
Patricia was a productive person, striving to help others achieve by following the good example she set forth.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, at The Wilton Mortuary, with the Rev. Howard Love officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Springdale Cemetery in Peoria.
