PEORIA - Mary Lee Disharoon, 75, of Peoria died at 2:48 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on Oct. 14, 1938, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Leo and Mary Cae (Weber) Stroh, Mary Lee lived in San Diego, Calif., and Rapid City, S.D., where she was homecoming queen at Cathedral High School. Mary Lee married her soul mate, Robert C. Disharoon, on May 23, 1959, in Des Moines. Bob and Mary Lee enjoyed 55 years of marriage, blessed with five children and 10 grandchildren.
Mary Lee is survived by her husband, Bob, of Peoria; son, Scott (Melissa) Disharoon of Los Angeles, Calif.; son, John (Karen) Disharoon of Dunlap; daughter, Paige (Scott) Fairfield of Toulon; and daughter, Kristen (Enrique) Laureano of Aurora, Ind. Mary Lee is also survived by her grandchildren, Jessica Morgan Whitaker of Peoria, Kathryn Fairfield, Emily Fairfield and Sarah Fairfield, all of Toulon, Elizabeth Scoville of Peoria, Jack Disharoon and Taylor Disharoon of Dunlap and Teagan Disharoon, Finn Disharoon and Harper Disharoon of Los Angeles; brothers, Bernie (Marsha) Stroh of Waterloo, Iowa, and Fred (Mimi) Stroh of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Robin Disharoon Whitaker; her parents; and grandparents.
Mary Lee's compassion and caring for others was a signature trademark throughout her life. Her friendships lasted a lifetime, and she considered many a part of her intimate circle of family. She was a terrific bridge player, voracious reader and seeker of knowledge, and, with a "can do" attitude, Mary Lee showed by example that all challenges can be overcome. And while many hearts are feeling her loss, they will find strength in her memories and guidance.
The family extends a special thanks to the doctors and nurses on the 5th floor Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at OSF.
Mary Lee was a member of First Federated Church in Peoria, where visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 4, from 4 to 7 p.m. A memorial service will be on Wednesday, March 5, at 11 a.m. at her church. The Rev. Dr. Forrest Krummel Jr. will officiate. Cremation rites will be accorded.
