CANTON - Mary L. Mortland, 89, of Canton, Ill., passed away at 10:34 a.m. Sunday, March 2, 2014, at her residence.
She was born April 17, 1924, in Pearl, Ill., to Wallace Sr. and June (Akers) Lewis. Mary married Clifford H. Mortland on Nov. 23, 1944, in Alton, Ill. They had been married for 66 years, before his passing on Jan. 25, 2011.
Also preceding her in death were her parents; one infant son, Danny; and one great-granddaughter, Kimberly Mortland.
Surviving are two sons, Gary W. (Hazel) Mortland of Canton and Dennis G. (Janie) Mortland of Hanna City; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Wallace "Bud" (Vista) Lewis Jr. of Winchester; and two sisters, Virginia M. Mortland of Hardin and Janet (Rodger) Bonnett of Pittsfield.
Mary was a member of the Canton Church of Christ.
She loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all of her church friends.
Services will be Thursday, March 6, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home in Canton, with visitation one hour prior. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery in rural Glasford.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to her church or donor's choice.
