PEORIA - R. Sherry Petri, 73, of Peoria passed away at 9:05 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home.

Sherry was born Nov. 11, 1940, in Peoria to Joseph Glenn and Roberta (Ward) Klecker. She married Paul Petri on Nov. 25, 1992, in Peoria. He preceded her in death.

Also preceding her in death were her parents and one brother, John Klecker.

A loving mother and grandmother, Sherry is survived by three sons, Kevin (Susan Brink) Hayes of Littleton, Colo., Keith (Debra) Hayes of Sandia Park, N.M., and Kurt (Deborah) Hayes of Boxborough, Mass.; two stepsons, Paul (Tammy) Petri Jr. and Dan (Martha) Petri; one brother, Steve (Julie) Klecker of Davenport, Iowa; three dear cousins, Char (Jon) Davis, Nan Ward and Jan (Dan) Hayes; one daughter-in-law, Kelly Hayes; one sister-in-law, Judy Klecker; seven grandchildren and four stepgrandchildren; and many other loving relatives and close friends.

Sherry graduated from Peoria High School in 1959 and from the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in 1962. As a registered nurse, she served patients in hospitals, doctors' practices and nursing homes. The last 10 years of her nursing career, before retirement, were spent as an advocate for disabled persons with the Illinois Office of State Guardian.

Sherry was a member of First English Lutheran Church, its quilting club and Ruth Circle.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at First English Lutheran Church. The Reverend Dr. James Lillie will officiate. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens. There will be a luncheon at the church following the burial.

Memorials may be made in Sherry's name to First English Lutheran Church or OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home.
