EAST PEORIA - Ruth Viola Burger, 92, of East Peoria, formerly of Creve Coeur, passed away at 3:05 a.m. on Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at Rosewood Care Center in East Peoria.
Ruth was born on May 17, 1921, in Glasford, the daughter of Cecil L. and Sarah E. Van Osdol Tyler. She married Carl E. Burger in Creve Coeur on Dec. 15, 1946. He preceded her in death on Jan. 31, 1993.
She is survived by one daughter, Suellen Marie (Owen Lee Jr.) Sowers of East Peoria; one son, Clayton Lee (Ann Eads) Burger of Creve Coeur; one grandson, Reid Owen (Yanira) Sowers of Peoria; and three great-grandchildren, Judith, Lyann and Owen Joel.
Ruth was also preceded in death by her parents.
She was a casework supervisor at Florence Crittenton Home in Peoria for 21 years, retiring in June of 1986.
She was a member of Bethel Memorial United Church of Christ and American Legion Auxiliary Post 1234.
Services will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 10, 2014, at Bethel Memorial United Church of Christ in Creve Coeur. Pastor Paul Isom will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Davison-Fulton Woolsey Funeral Home in Pekin is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
