William Curtis Obituary

WASHINGTON - William "Bill" Curtis, 78, of Washington died at 7:47 p.m. on Friday, March 14, 2014, at UnityPoint Health-Methodist in Peoria.

He was born on Dec. 6, 1935, in Belle, Mo., to Charles M. and Janet M. Moore Curtis. His mother passed away when he was 5 years old, after which he was raised by his father and new stepmother, Ila Lewis Curtis. He married Janet Queen on Dec. 4, 1960, in Washington. She survives.

Also surviving are his three children, Annette (Richard) Thompson of Nampa, Idaho, William M. "Marty" (Christine) Curtis II of Huber Heights, Ohio, and Alaina Smith of Washington; five grandchildren, Tim, Ty, Sarah, Alicia and Abby; five great-grandchildren, Julia, Cati, Kellen, Camille and Jade; his siblings, Gary (Gail) Curtis of Summerville, S.C., Allen (Donna) Curtis of Waco, Texas, Michael Curtis of Rolla, Mo., Marlene Albrecht of Rolla, Mo., Sherry (Gary) Stites of Newburg, Mo., and Dennis (Diane) Curtis of Rolla, Mo.; his sisters-in-law, Gail Gormley and Christine Queen; brothers-in-law, Steve Queen and Gordon (Sue) Queen; his mother-in-law, June Queen; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Darrell Curtis; and his parents.

Bill worked 46 years as an over-the-road truck driver, retiring in 2006. He worked for numerous companies, including, Drum Transportation, Newlun Transportation, Dohrn Trucking, Tobler Trucking, Jolliff Trucking and USF Holland.

Bill loved to play cards with his family and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Bulls and Chicago Bears fan. He also enjoyed going fishing.

He was a member of Sunnyland Christian Church in Washington and American Legion Post 100 in Washington.

There will be a funeral service for Bill on Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Pastor Evan Williams will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Glendale Cemetery in Washington.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sunnyland Christian Church or to the Shelf & Books Fund at the Sunnyland branch of the Washington District Library.
