WASHINGTON - Ruby E.C. Nordling, 87, formerly of Washington, passed away at 12:50 p.m. Monday, March 17, 2014, at Heddington Oaks Nursing Home in West Peoria.
Ruby was born on Jan. 19, 1927, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Karl Berndt and Emmy (Vahlquist) Petterson. She married Seth "Philip" Nordling in Portland, Ore., on June 12, 1948. He died on Oct. 3, 1969, in Washington.
Among those surviving are two daughters, Chris (Tom) White of Washington and Carol Nordling of Seattle, Wash.; one son, Eric Nordling of Schaumburg, Ill.; one brother, Karl Erik Ejve (Mary) Petterson of Seattle; two granddaughters, Trisha (Ben) Sayre of Williamsburg, Ohio, and Stephany White of Fort Wayne, Ind.; three great-grandchildren, Chloe, Eli and Liam; and five nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by one sister, Ingvor Sofia Tibbets.
Ruby retired as an agent for McLaughlin & Sons Insurance in Peoria. Prior to that time, she was a partner in Milnor Fabrics in Washington and also had worked for Leighter Electric.
She will always be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother who loved to spend time with her family. Ruby was an excellent seamstress who also loved to sew and cross stitch. She loved to travel and was always looking forward to another trip to the northwest.
Ruby was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Sunnyland, where a memorial celebration will be held on Monday, March 24, 2014, at 11 a.m., with Pastor John Rothfusz officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church. Following services, burial will be in Glendale Cemetery in Washington. Cremation rites have been accorded and Mason-White Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
