METAMORA - David Eugene Koppenhoefer, 66, of Metamora passed away at 8:34 p.m. Monday, March 24, 2014, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Born April 5, 1947, in Peoria to Walter H. and Lillian A. (McCoy) Koppenhoefer, he married Freda Gail Vick on July 12, 1975, in Peoria. She died Feb. 25, 2005, in Metamora.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Charles; and one sister, Nancy.
Surviving are one son, Brian David Koppenhoefer of Metamora; two daughters, Amanda Violet George of Peoria and Heather Beth (Dan) Galletti of Eureka; five grandchildren, Hunter Scott Hohenbery, Gabriel Autumn George and Johanna Rose George, all of Peoria, Sophia Marie Koppenhoefer of Metamora and Hannah Grace Galletti of Eureka; two brothers, Lyle (Lee Ann) Koppenhoefer of Metamora and Milton (Lorraine) Koppenhoefer of Metamora; and one sister, Jane (Gordon) Koppenhoefer-Little of Glendale, Ariz.
David attended St. Peter's Lutheran Church in East Peoria.
He had served his country in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968.
He had worked as a millwright at Caterpillar Inc. for 37 years, retiring in 2002 from the Morton plant.
He had been a member of the UAW Skilled Trades Journeyman Club.
He was very active with his grandchildren and cherished time spent with them. He loved being around children because it made him feel young. He was the type of person who put everyone else's needs before his own. He was the type of guy that when you met him, you'd go away thinking, "He's a really nice guy."
His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Kurt F. Mews will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin, where military honors will be provided by the United States Army and the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team.
