PEORIA - Ted Payne Rathbone, 87, of Peoria passed away at 9:28 a.m. Thursday, March 27, 2014, at Heartland of Peoria.
Ted was born Sept. 22, 1926, in Humboldt, Kan., to Arthur and Helen Bradford Rathbone. He was married to Elsa Ferguson of Chillicothe from 1950 to 1973. He married Lois Ann "San" White Hansen on Dec. 19, 1981, in Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Rick E. (Emi) Rathbone of Stronghurst, Ill.; one daughter, Renee L. Krudwig of Chillicothe; one sister-in-law, Marjorie Rathbone of Eagan, Minn.; two stepsons, Fred (Debbie) Hansen of Peoria and Eric (Lynn) Hansen of Germantown Hills; three grandsons; two granddaughters; one great-grandson; three nephews; and two nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, Arthur Atteberry; one brother, Rex Rathbone; one sister, Janet Stringer; one granddaughter; and one half brother, James Rathbone.
Ted attended Subiaco Academy in Subiaco, Ark., and was an avid hunter.
He was a World War II Navy veteran for "2 years, 6 months, 6 days," serving in the South Pacific on the USS John Land.
He was employed by Caterpillar Inc. for 38 years, retiring from the maintenance department in the boiler room at the Mossville plant.
Ted was a 50-year member of the George Washington Lodge 222 AF&AM in Chillicothe, Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Peoria and the Mohammed Shriners.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 29, 2014, at The Wilton Mortuary, where visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Rev. Lauren Padgett will officiate. Cremation rites will be accorded.
