FARMINGTON - Egbert Glenn Threw, 88, of Farmington passed away Saturday, March 29, 2014, in Farmington, Ill.
Egbert was born March 26, 1926, to Glenn A. and Nellie (Cone) Threw in rural Knox County, Ill. He graduated from Farmington High School in 1944. Egbert served with the U.S. Army Signal Corps in the Philippines. Upon discharge in 1948, he returned to the family farm. Egbert married Patricia A. Chipman on April 17, 1949, in Farmington, Ill. She survives.
He is also survived by his children, Deborah O'Donnell of Farmington, Richard (Pamela) Threw of Norwood, Michael (Debra) Threw of Trivoli and Patrick Kelly (Louisa) Threw of Farmington. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Bethamy Threw, Ryan (Kimberley) O'Donnell, Marshall Threw, Spencer Threw, MacKenzie Threw and Sean Threw; and two great-grandchildren, Savonia Mahr-Threw and Hannah O'Donnell.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; one brother; one son-in-law, Michael O'Donnell; and one grandson, Brady Threw.
Egbert retired from International Harvester in Canton and continued farming.
He was a 65-year member of Farmington Masonic Lodge 192, the Scottish Rite and Mohammed Shrine, Farmington Oddfellow Lodge 44 and First United Presbyterian Church of Farmington.
Egbert took pride in his colonial ancestry, which dates back to Joseph Cone, one of the founding fathers of Farmington.
Egbert enjoyed raising cattle, spending time in his duck blind, turtle hunting, fishing, frogging on his lakes and watching his beloved Chicago Cubs and Bears attempt successful seasons.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home in Farmington, with visitation one hour before. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Farmington.
