Mildred Summers Obituary

EAST PEORIA - Mildred Louise Summers, 88, of East Peoria, formerly of Winchester, passed away at 10:55 a.m. Sunday, April 6, 2014, at her home.

Mildred was born April 26, 1925, in Winchester, Ill., to Albert and Emma Evans Walker. She married Wilbur Eugene Summers, her loving husband of 61 years, on June 29, 1944. He preceded her in death in 2006.

Surviving are her children, Fred Summers of Hot Springs, Ark., Sharon Gualandi of Peoria and Debbie (Rick) Snow of East Peoria; grandchildren, Annette Rees, whom she helped raise, Larry (Sheri) Gualandi, Chris Gualandi, Michael Summers and Sara Summers; great-grandchildren, Kayla and Jennifer Gualandi and Kaitlin Belfield; three great-great-grandchildren; and her caregiver and friend of six years, Bridgette Morden.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, one sister, one great-grandson and a daughter-in-law.

Mildred worked for State Farm Insurance Companies until her retirement.

She was a member of the Scott County Saddle Club, until she moved to Peoria in 1965. Mildred loved to travel to her vacation home in Hot Springs, Ark., and was an active member of South Side Baptist Church and Fountain Lake Baptist Church of Hot Springs. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and grandkids, being outdoors in her garden and her pet dogs.

Mildred will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Special thanks to Mary Ann, her home health nurse; Dr. David Rodenberg; Dr. Stephen Marshall; and Dr. Michael Zichterman for the excellent loving care they provided throughout her many illnesses.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2014, at Winchester Cemetery in Winchester, Ill. The Rev. Tom Miller will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in East Peoria.
