PEORIA - Mother Lula Bell Totten, 78, of Peoria, Ill., formerly of Greenwood, Miss., passed away peacefully at 10:32 a.m. on Monday, April 7, 2014, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Willie (Debra) Newman.
Lula was born on Nov. 4, 1935, in Black Hawk, Miss., to Mamie Branch and Clarence Johnson.
Lula is survived by three sons, Willie (Debra) Newman of Peoria, Ill., Lorenzo (Kathy) Anderson of Dallas, Texas, and John York of Peoria, Ill.; two daughters, Vera (Cedric) McCollins of Stone Mountain, Ga., and Leslie Totten of Austell, Ga.; seven brothers, Robert Branch, Charles Murff and Eddie Bell, all of Greenwood, Miss., Roy Harris of Memphis, Tenn., J.C. (Earlene) Harris and Sylvester Harris, both of Peoria, Ill., and Willie (Mary) Harris of Chicago, Ill.; five sisters, Mandella Moore of Peoria, Catherine Brown of Indianapolis, Ind., Corrine (Robert) Daniels of Chicago, Ill., Annie Harris Jones of Austin, Texas, and Ethel McDonald of Minneapolis, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Lula retired as a CNA, working many years in the nursing home industry in Greenwood, Miss.
Lula was an honorary member and Mother at Peoria Friendship M.B. Church in Peoria, Ill. She was a longtime member and Mother at New Green Grove Church of Faith in Greenwood, Miss.
A funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2014, at Peoria Friendship M.B. Church, with a one hour visitation, beginning at 5 p.m. The Rev. Dr. Claude E. Russell will officiate. A funeral will be held at New Green Grove Church of Faith in Greenwood, Miss., at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2014, with a visitation at 1 p.m. The Rev. Milton Glass will officiate. Mother Totten will be laid to rest at Hudson Park Cemetery in Greenwood, Miss.
