TRIVOLI - Mary Jane Keel, 80, of Trivoli passed away on Monday, April 21, 2014, at the Renaissance Care Center in Canton.
She was born on March 29, 1934, in Pekin to Phillip and Lula Goodwin Kroell. They preceded her in death. She married Major Richard W. Keel Sr., U.S. Air Force retired, on April 3, 1955, in Forest City, Ill. He survives.
Also surviving are five children, Richard (Jill) W. Keel Jr. of Pekin, Mary (Jim) Murphy of Van Meter, Iowa, Susan (Robert C.) Graham of Hanover, Ind., Sarah Keel-Wiebmer of Trivoli and Elizabeth (Matt) Clarage of Lemont, Ill.; one brother, David (Paula) Kroell of Forest City; one sister, Phyllis (Ken) Bender of Pensacola, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Nick (Jamie Turnage) Graham, Matt (Liz) Graham, Catherine Graham, Jillian Murphy, Jay Murphy, Michael Murphy, Jacob Clarage and Benjamin Clarage; and two great-grandchildren, Rowan Graham and Oren Graham.
Mary Jane was also preceded in death by one brother, Frank.
She graduated as valedictorian of the class of 1951 at the Forest City High School, was a 1954 graduate of the Methodist School of Nursing in Peoria and received her bachelor of science from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and her master of education from Western Illinois University.
Mary Jane worked as a psychiatric nurse instructor for Graham Hospital School of Nursing in Canton, later becoming the director of the school and later was the director of nursing for Bel-Wood Nursing Home in Peoria.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at the Penn Ridge Lutheran Church in rural Trivoli, with visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday evening at the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton. Burial will be at Penn Ridge Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Penn Ridge Lutheran Church or to the Penn Ridge Cemetery Association.
