Gloria Genovese Obituary

MORTON - Gloria J. Genovese, 71, of Morton passed away at 3:24 p.m. Sunday, April 27, 2014, at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.

She was born April 28, 1942, in Savanna, Ill. Her parents were Oswald J. and Jeanne C. (Helm) Spillane. She married John M. Genovese Jr. on March 17, 1962, in Peoria.

Surviving are her husband of Morton; three daughters, Michelle R. King and Lorey A. (Michael) Schlehuber, both of Morton, and Trisha J. Genovese (Robert L. Schoolman) of Peoria; one son, Michael J. (Michelle) Genovese of Peoria; 10 grandchildren, Ashley, Anthony, Abbey and Andrew King, Christian and Clair Schlehuber, Austin and Madison Pudik and Michael Jr. and Meagan Genovese; one great-grandson, Rylan Ball; one sister, Georgia (Lyle) Gugler of Shawnee, Kan.; and one brother, Patrick (Sue) Spillane of Bedford, N.H.

She was preceded in death by one great-grandchild, Nevaeh Ball; her birth father, Paul E. Beck; and her parents.

Gloria worked at the Peoria County Courthouse Recorder of Deeds Office, retiring on Jan. 17, 2003.

She was very active in AFSCME, of which she was a member. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish in Morton. She previously served as Norwood Village president from 1997 to 2001. She also had served as a village trustee from 2005 to 2007.

Gloria and her husband, John, after retirement, did some traveling through the years, and enjoyed watching their grandchildren's activities. She and her girlfriends enjoyed shows at Conklin's Dinner Theatre. Gloria was always reaching out to help others. She loved life and all her family and friends and walks with her dog, Bailey. She spoke to her brother, Pat, very frequently and her sister, Georgia, daily. She enjoyed cooking, playing cards and visits with everyone. Gloria had a huge heart and her ultimate and genuine concern was for everyone's well being.

Cremation will be accorded. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2014, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 225 E. Greenwood St., Morton, where a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Further visitation will be from 9 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday, May 3, followed by a memorial Mass at 11 a.m., with Father Mark DeSutter officiating. Burial will be at Hirstein Cemetery in Morton.
