EDWARDS - Isabelle Moore, age 90, of Edwards, formerly of Peoria Heights, passed away Sunday, May 11, 2014 at her residence.
Born Oct. 2, 1923, in Peoria, she was a daughter of the late Gale F. and Bertha May Slavens-Summers. On Nov. 15, 1947, Isabelle married Roland P. Moore in Peoria. He preceded her in death in 2010.
She worked for Catholic Social Services, Lutheran Social Services and DCFS as a foster care parent, in which she fostered 187 children, then opened up her own private day care until her retirement in 1985.
Survivors include two daughters, Carol S. (John) Mathis of Edwards and Crystal K. Sweetin of East Peoria; three grandchildren, Paul (Jodi) Moore of Pekin, Amber (Joshua) Powers of Washington and Brittnee (Jason) Smock of Chillicothe; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Betty Moreland; three nieces; two nephews; as well as special family friend, Rick Wagner.
Isabelle was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roland Moore; one son, Roland P. Moore Jr.; one daughter, Betty J. Moore; one brother, Harold Summers; and one niece.
The family would like to send a special thanks to Roberta Groeper and Millie Lapsley for their friendship, as well as Hospice Compassus for their help and compassion during this difficult time.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A graveside service will take place June 2, 2014, at 10 a.m. at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria. Pastor Dwight Winnett of First Christian United Disciples of Creve Coeur will officiate.
