HANNA CITY - Ethel Pearl Smith, 86, of Hanna City, Ill., passed away at 7:45 p.m. on Friday, May 16, 2014, at her home.
She was born on July 5, 1927, in Hedge City, Mo., to Silas Scott and Hattie (Gastineau) Parrish. She married James F. Smith on March 27, 1948, in Farmington, Ill. He preceded her in death on Aug. 18, 1992.
Surviving are daughters, Deborah (Larry) Celia of Fairview and Cathy (Rodney) Nichols of Farmington; and daughter-in-law, Leigh Ann Smith of Farmington. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Jeremy (Lori) Johnson, Beth Nichols, Meghan Celia, David (Coral) Nichols, Joseph Celia, Jesse Smith and Kelsey Smith; and 11 great-grandchildren, Koty, Hannah, Marissa, Noah, Dimitrios, Tristenano, Alexander Munro, Shelbey, Trista, Kylie and Tryce; along with many nieces and nephews.
Ethel was also preceded in death by her sons, Jerry D. Smith on Oct. 19, 2013, and James C. Smith on Sept. 22, 2009; her brothers, Medford, Deacon, Carl, Calvin and Wilford Parrish; and her sisters, Ivy Dyer, Sally Shubert, Edna Couch and Hattie Lee Dietrich.
She was a member of the Hanna City United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary Post 979 of Bartonville and the Hanna City Sportsmen's Club.
In addition to spending time with her family, she also enjoyed spending time with her many friends, including the "Gray Hairs," playing cards and bunco, visiting casinos and taking bus trips.
Cremation rites have been accorded. The family will receive friends and relatives on Sunday, May 25, from 1 to 5 p.m. at 314 N. Runkle, Hanna City. Burial of the ashes will be in Leonard, Mo.
Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton is in charge of arrangements.
