NORMAL - The Rev. David P. Dees died on Wednesday, May 21, 2014, in Normal.
He was born on Jan. 4, 1926, to Jesse W. and Frances Dees.
He married Elizabeth Wiedrich on May 26, 1956, in Champaign.
They had three children, Mary Beth (Dees) Anderson (deceased), the Rev. Dr. Rebekah Dees-McMahon (Bruce) of Sheffield, Ill., and Paul Dees (Suzy) of Normal, Ill. He is also survived by three granddaughters, Meg Anderson of Loda, Ill., and Kira and Haley Dees of Normal, Ill.
He had three brothers who preceded him in death, Jesse W. Dees Jr., Sherwood Dees and Lloyde Dees. One sister, Frances Foster of Champaign, survives.
He was a clergy member of the Illinois Great Rivers Conference, serving in ministry for more than 50 years.
He served also as a board member to a variety of United Methodist Agencies.
David graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1949 and Garrett Biblical Institute in 1953.
He was a great fan of the IWU Titans basketball team for seven decades. He served as a member of the Board of Trustees of IWU and was named a Member Emeritus. For many years he was a member of the Bloomington Kiwanis Club.
A visitation will be held today, May 24, from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church in Bloomington, with the service to follow at 10 a.m. The Rev. Camilla Hempstead and the Rev. Ken Dees will officiate. The burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Champaign following the service.
Memorials may be directed to Wesley United Methodist Church in Bloomington or to Illinois Wesleyan University.
