Peoria - Phyllis A. France, 78, of Peoria passed away at 6:54 a.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 2, 2014, at First Baptist Church of Peoria, with the Rev. Dr. Jim Carlson officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today, June 1, 2014, at First Baptist Church. Interment will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield.
Phyllis was born on Feb. 18, 1936, in Quincy, the daughter of William K. and Flossie G. (Walton) Doane. They preceded her in death, along with two brothers, Donald W. and Leroy R. Doane.
She was raised by her aunt and uncle, Charles W. and Albertha M. Doane, since she was 2 years old.
She was formerly married to Milton Spears. She married Larry D. France on Dec. 6, 1990, in Honolulu. He survives.
Phyllis is also survived by her sons, Martin J. Spears of Havelock, N.C., and Christopher M. (Sandra) Spears of Carlinville; grandchildren, Ashley M., Austin T. and Amanda C. Spears; and brothers, Robert E. Doane of Golden, Colo., and Larry P. (Pat) Doane of Dubuque, Iowa.
She retired as a savings counselor for Peoria Savings & Loan, formerly Central City Savings & Loan.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Peoria and enjoyed volunteering for their Wednesday night dinner. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Luthy Botanical Garden in Peoria, where she was a past recipient of the Volunteer of the Year award.
Phyllis collected angels and enjoy gardening, making cards, Chicago Cubs baseball, listening to Christian music and spending time with her family. She cared deeply for others and had a heart for her Lord Jesus.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to First Baptist Church of Peoria, Luthy Botanical Garden or the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home.
