MORTON - Verna M. Amstutz, 85, of Morton passed away at 10:02 p.m. Thursday, May 29, 2014, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
She was born Nov. 18, 1928, in Eureka, the daughter of Magnus and Esther (Hunziker) Hartman. She married Malcolm Amstutz on Dec. 22, 1950, in Washington.
Surviving are her husband of Morton; one daughter, Sue (Ed) Railey of Morton; one son, Greg (Carrie) Amstutz of Morton; three grandsons, Steve and Tim Amstutz and Darren (Elisa) Railey; one great-granddaughter, Annabelle Railey; two stepgrandsons, Brian (Kristin) Railey and Bret Railey; one stepgreat-grandson, Anderson Railey; and one sister, Rachel Meyer of Eureka.
She was preceded in death by one brother.
Following high school, Verna was employed at Caterpillar Inc. for 10 years.
She was a Sunday school teacher at Mount Olive Missionary Church for several years. Her love for The Christian Center in Peoria inspired her from its beginning to be active as a volunteer in many capacities. Verna dearly loved her family and her Savior, Jesus Christ. Her greatest desire was to know she trusted in Jesus for her salvation. She assisted well and faithfully with the many Christian activities that her husband was involved in.
She was a member of Grace Church in Morton, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2014, with Pastor Doug Habegger, Pastor Caleb McClarren and Dr. Steven Hauter officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today, June 2, and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, both at Grace Church in Morton. Burial will be in the Groveland Mennonite Church Cemetery.
