FAIRVIEW - Joseph Simac, 83, of Fairview died at 5:21 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2014, at Graham Hospital in Canton.
He was born on March 8, 1931, in St. David, Ill., to Joseph and Winnie (Zaborac) Simac. He married Patricia Cecil Morse in Farmington on May 2, 1987. She survives.
Other survivors include three daughters, JoAnne Travis of Dallas, Texas, Allison (John) Misukanis of Lewisville, Texas, and Emily Simac of Dallas, Texas; two stepchildren, David (Diane) Morse of Gillette, Wyo., and Lisa (Josh) Ellingson of Pekin; two stepgrandchildren, Jenna (Ben) Cook of DeKalb and Shelby Mason of Muskegon, Mich.; and one sister, Louise Daily of Butler, Pa.
He was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.
Joe was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was a member of Roy Miller American Legion Post 644 in Fairview and VFW Post 1984 in Canton.
He retired from the Fairview and Middlegrove coal mines with 38 1/2 years of service and was a member of UMWA Local 7110.
He also had been a member of the Canton Masonic Lodge 734 AF&AM and the Shriners in Peoria.
Cremation rites will be accorded. Visitation will be private. A graveside service, with military honors, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, at Fairview Cemetery.
Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Roy Miller Post 644, Fairview Fire and Rescue or the Fairview Food Pantry program.
