CREVE COEUR - James Henry "Jim" Johnson, 77, of Creve Coeur passed away at 6:13 p.m. Monday, June 9, 2014, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Born Aug. 6, 1936, in Peoria to George Earl and Bernice (Sweetnam) Johnson, he married Lucille Helen "Lu" Fleury on Dec. 28, 1957, in New Bedford, Mass. She survives.

Also surviving are four sons, James W. (Masako) Johnson of Singapore, Daniel (Wayoka) Johnson of Bloomington, Patrick Johnson of Creve Coeur and Jeffrey (Susan) Johnson of Peoria; two daughters, Linda (Ivan) Roth of East Peoria and Mary (Bob) DeClue of Imperial, Mo.; 10 grandchildren, George Johnson, Ken Johnson, Kimberly Hammond, Benit Roth, Alexander Johnson, Nick Legan, Emily Legan, Meghan DeClue, Lauren DeClue and Alison DeClue; two great-grandchildren, Jayden and Mattison; and one brother, Robert (Judy) Johnson of Moline.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Karen Johnson on Nov. 2, 1975; one grandson, Matthew Hammond; one brother, William Johnson; and one sister, Joan Purcell.

A United States Navy veteran, he served from Oct. 28, 1954, to Aug. 24, 1959.

Jim worked at the USDA Research Lab in Peoria for 35 years, retiring in 1995 as a chemical technician.

He was a member of Sacre Coeur Catholic Church in Creve Coeur, Knights of Columbus Archbishop Schlarman Council 3507 in Pekin and the Creve Coeur American Legion Post 1234.

Jim was an avid golfer and also enjoyed gardening and reading.

His funeral Mass will be at noon Friday, June 13, 2014, at Sacre Coeur Catholic Church in Creve Coeur. Father Michael Andrejek and Monsignor Thomas Badovsky will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in West Peoria, where military rites will be accorded by the United States Navy.
