BARTONVILLE - Darrell L. "Joe" Neff, 85, of Bartonville, Ill., died Sunday, June 22, 2014, at UnityPoint Health-Methodist in Peoria, Ill.
He was born on July 17, 1928, in Peoria, Ill. He was the son of Floyd and Hilma (Johnson) Neff. He married Hazel M. Pitzer (Reardon) on May 1, 1954, in Bartonville, Ill. She survives.
Also surviving are three children, Dale (Pam) Neff of Peoria, Tim (Kathy) Neff of Bartonville and Nancy Jo (Stan) Scott of Mapleton. Also surviving are a stepdaughter-in-law, Deborah Reardon of Bartonville; and one brother, Leland (Wanda) Neff of Metamora. He has 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three sisters. He was also preceded in death by one stepson, James (Sparky) Reardon.
Darrell was a laborer at Hiram Walker Distillery for 37 years, retiring in 1981.
He coached Limestone Little League for many years; was a member of the Radnor Rod and Gun Club, Bartonville American Legion Post 979 and the Hiram Walker Retirees Club; and was a dedicated Cubs fan.
He never met a stranger and was affectionately dubbed as "GABBY."
He was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church.
Funeral services will be Thursday, June 26, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel. The Rev. Dr. Philip Lund will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
