PEORIA - Robert James Nixon Sr., 65, of Peoria passed away at 7:45 a.m. Monday, June 23, 2014, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 4, 1949, in York, Ala., to the late Zack and Amie Nixon Sr.
Robert was a hardworking family man. He loved to fish and renovate homes. He was a true friend to all that crossed his path.
Robert was a member of Miracle Revival Fellowship Pentecostal Church.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories two sons, Brian Nixon and Robert (Nneka) Nixon Jr.; four daughters, Gloria (Lovell) Smith, Brenda (Walter) Rodgers, Coretta (Darius) Nixon and Carissa (Derek) Nixon, all of Peoria; one brother, Zack (Gloria) Nixon Jr. of Cleveland, Ohio; and two sisters, Minnie Lee Artis of Peoria and May Etta Hines of Los Angeles, Calif.; special grandson and caregiver, Lamar Nixon; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends who adored and will miss him dearly.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his soul mate, wife Joann Nixon; and one granddaughter, Kelis Nixon.
Home-going service will be at 10 a.m. today at Faith Tabernacle COGIC, with visitation commencing one hour prior, at 9 a.m. Elder Jessie Artis will officiate with host Pastor Felton Beck Jr. Interment will be at Lutheran Cemetery.
Arrangements were made especially for Roberts' family and professionally directed by T.W. Parks Colonial Chapel.
