PEORIA - Mary Louise Wright, 81, of Peoria (Limestone Township) passed away Monday, June 30, 2014, in Peoria Heights, of natural causes.
Mary Lou was born on July 25, 1932, in Peoria to Rudolf and Pearl (Nott) Smith. She married Richard E. Wright in 1951.
Surviving are her husband, Richard; her children, Bradley (Kathi), Kevin (Duperly) and Christopher (Lynne); son-in-law, Tom Rickard; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Cynthia Rickard; and her brothers, Warren, Gene and Howard.
After attending Manual High School, she became a bookkeeper, first at South Side Bank and finally at Byerly Aviation, where she obtained a pilot's license.
A lifelong member of the Baha'i Faith, she pioneered to the Navaho Reservation in Gallup, N.M., with her husband, Richard Wright. After retirement, she volunteered at Rural Peoria County Council on Aging.
Mary Lou was known as a loving wife who loved to serve others. She enjoyed making quilts and cooking.
Her funeral was at 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Members of the Baha'i Community officiated. Visitation was from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial was at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Mapleton.
