LEWISTOWN - Richard A. Mathews, 77, of rural Lewistown died at 7 a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2014, at Graham Hospital in Canton.
He was born on Jan. 3, 1937, in Galesburg to John and Octavia (Tomich) Mathews. He married the love of his life, Mary Jane Farwell on Oct. 16, 1960, at the Summum Christian Church. She survives.
Other survivors include four children, Jana Thomas of Peoria, Jo Ellen (Ken) Luster of Bartonville, Doug Mathews of Chicago and David (Mary) Mathews of Canton; six grandchildren, Evan Thomas, Shay Thomas, Drew Luster, Bree Luster, Kaitlyn Mathews and Elyse Mathews; one great-grandson, James Thomas; one brother, Donald Mathews of Littleton, Colo.; and one sister, Christine Childers of Golden, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Louis Mathews.
Richard was a journeyman electrician, working through Local 34.
He was a Chicago Bears fan, an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed woodworking, fishing and nature.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 6, at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, where visitation will be held two hours prior.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Buckheart Rescue Squad.
