NORTH PEKIN - Ted "Teddy" Dixon Jr., 88, of North Pekin passed away at 12:16 a.m. Sunday, July 6, 2014 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Born Dec. 21, 1925, in Farmington to Orville and Velma (Van Houten) Dixon, he married Sarah E. Harding on Oct. 9, 1948, in Williamsville. She died Feb. 2, 1997, in Pekin.

He also was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Surviving are one son, Ted Dixon of North Pekin; one brother, Richard Dixon of Bellevue; and one sister, Virginia (Homer) Robinson of Peoria.

A World War II veteran with the Merchant Marine, he also was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War.

He worked for Yellow Freight in Morton as a truck driver, retiring in April of 1989. He was a member of Teamsters and Chauffeurs Union Local 627 in Peoria.

He enjoyed golfing, fishing and watching NASCAR. He favorite driver was Jeff Gordon and he was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 10, 2014, at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. The Rev. Gary Ford will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, with military rites accorded.
