PEKIN - Jackie K. Long, 74, of Pekin died at 3:40 p.m. on Monday, July 7, 2014, at home at his residence, surrounded by family.
He was born Sept. 30, 1939, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, to Clifford and Opal Long. He married Rosemary West on Dec. 7, 1957, in Oskaloosa, and she survives.
Also surviving are their children, Kimberly Strong, Bradley K. Long, Louise R. Milam and Sherri Gschwend; grandchildren, Terra Morris, Michelle Biesecker, Trent Strong, Cole Milam, Austin Stump, Brooke Strong, Mallory Milam, Kayla Milam and Jacquelyn Gschwend; great-grandchildren, Zayne Morris and Lucy Milam; and brother, Jim (Barb) Long of Iowa. Jack also leaves behind his furry daughter, Buttons. He took a lot of pride in his family and had a special place in his heart for each new member as they came along.
His parents preceded him in death.
Jack worked as an inspector at Caterpillar for 30 years, retiring from the Morton facility. He also worked at Spring Lake in Macomb, Ill., where he made many dear friends.
He and Rosemary also made many more wonderful friends when they wintered in McAllen, Texas. Jack did not know a stranger and was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He enjoyed fishing, "coffee timing," and "tinkering" around on projects. He will be greatly missed.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of life will take place on Sunday, July 13, 2014, at Pekin Avantis from 2 to 4 p.m. for family and friends to come together to remember Jack.
