PEORIA - Jean Frances Gebert, age 93, of Marion, Iowa, formerly of Boone, Iowa, and Peoria, passed away Sunday, July 6, 2014, at The Villages at Marion in Village Ridge, Iowa.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, at Walter-Schroeder Funeral Home at Fifth & Story streets in Boone, with the Rev. Lindsay Watkins officiating. Interment was in the Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone, Iowa.

Jean was born on March 14, 1921, in Boone, Iowa, the daughter of John Henry and Henrietta (Franks) Gebert. On April 17, 1921,

Jean was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boone, then on March 25, 1934, she received her confirmation at Trinity Lutheran Church. She graduated from Boone High School in 1938. In 1942, Jean received a B.A. degree from the Iowa State Teachers School, now University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Over the years, she attended various other colleges.

Jean was employed as a schoolteacher in Missouri Valley, Iowa, for two years, Perry, Iowa, for one year, then in Peoria, Ill., for 38 years. Jean lived in Boone for 17 years, then moved to Peoria for 46 years, then moved to Marion in 1991.

Jean was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Boone. After moving to Peoria, she became a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Peoria, Ill., and then the St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Marion, Iowa. She was a member of the Retired Teachers of Peoria and State of Illinois.

Jean enjoyed traveling abroad and experiencing diverse cultures and customs. Several trips were made to Europe, Africa and Asia, as well as many areas of the United States.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her infant brother, Frederick; her infant sister, Marie; and her brother, John Gebert.

Jean is survived by her nephew, Jeff Gebert (Janet) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; her nieces, Jan Sherwood (Craig) of Nevada, Iowa, and Julie Lange (Royce) of Hiawatha, Iowa; her four great-nephews and nieces; five great-great-nephews and nieces; and her sister-in-law, Kay Gebert of Newhall, Iowa.

In memory of Jean, memorials may be given to the Cedar Valley Humane Society in Cedar Rapids or Indian Creek Nature Center in Cedar Rapids.
