PEORIA - Mary Lou Caldwell, 84, of Peoria passed away at 5:56 p.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2014, at UnityPoint Health-Methodist in Peoria from complications of heart disease and rheumatoid arthritis.
She was born April 2, 1930, to Harvey and Ollie (Harris) Hill. She married Eugene "Blackie" Caldwell on March 7, 1953, in Peoria. He preceded her in death on March 7, 1994.
Mary is survived by her children, Donna of Beverly Hills, Fla., Helen of Tres Piedras, N.M., and Ralph of Peoria; eight grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Dorothy and Imogene; and one brother, Harley.
Mary was a member of the Bartonville Community Bible Church of Bartonville.
She was an engraver for Rebbecks Sporting Goods and Joan's Trophies. She worked as a clerk for Biehl's Cleaners.
She also enjoyed crafts and was an expert seamstress and crocheter. She was an accomplished bowler.
Mary deeply loved animals. Her wishes were to have any desired donations in her memory made to S.A.M.S, Stray Animal Midway Shelter, a no-kill animal shelter, 328 S. Pinkerton Road, Hanna City, Ill., www.samsrescue.org.
Visitation will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at The Wilton Mortuary in Peoria. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at the mortuary and burial will follow at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria, with Pastor Chase Fisher officiating.
