MACOMB - Doris Rose Williams Chaffee, 86, of Wesley Estates, Macomb, passed away at 8:33 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at her home.
She was born in Fulton County, Ill., on May 21, 1928, to Howard S. and Thressa Yocum Williams. She married William John Chaffee in Abingdon, Ill., on June 2, 1946. He preceded her in death along with one son, William Mark Chaffee.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda (Terry) Webb of Bushnell and Laura Pierard of Springfield; grandchildren, Sara (Cory) Hilton, Jill (Ryan) Olson, Nathan (Lisa) Webb and Katie Webb; and great-grandchildren, Norah and Ruby Hilton, Brynn Olson and Jamey Webb.
Doris received a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Western Illinois University and a master's degree in special education from Illinois State University.
She retired from teaching in the Bushnell-Prairie City School District in 1990.
Doris was a member of the Methodist church and several teachers' groups and women's clubs.
For several years, she and her husband were avid square dancers. Other hobbies included gardening, cooking, genealogy work and traveling.
Doris was a trained National Red Cross volunteer, and she served in disaster-stricken areas, including Ground Zero.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the McDonough County Genealogical Society, Bushnell Historical Society or the Bushnell Swimming Pool.
