ELMWOOD - Willard E. Swindler, 100, of Elmwood passed away at 11:24 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 1, 2014, at Farmington Country Manor.

He was born on July 31, 1914, in Bloomfield, Iowa, to Ed and Nicie Mae (Lunsford) Swindler. He married Margaret Wolford on April 26, 1939, in Bloomfield, Iowa.

He is survived by two children, Allen Swindler and Donna Whittinghill of Elmwood; one daughter-in-law, Pat Swindler of Elmwood; one brother, Larry Swindler of Bloomfield, Iowa; one sister, Delilah Morrow of Bloomfield, Iowa; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret; one son, Jim Swindler; four brothers; and one sister.

Willard was a machinist for Caterpillar, retiring in 1974.

He was an active bowler until the age of 92 and was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014, at Cottonwood Cemetery in rural Edwards. Immediately following burial, family will receive friends at the Elmwood Tap.

Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Elmwood is in charge of arrangements.
