PEORIA - John T. "Jack" Welsh, 84, of Peoria passed away at 2:25 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014, at Buehler Home.
Jack was born on March 30, 1930, in Ottawa, Ill., to George and Mary (Scherer) Welsh. He married Kathleen Ann Cronan on Jan. 10, 1959, in Peoria. She preceded him in death on April 21, 2010, in Peoria Heights.
He also was preceded in death by two brothers, George Jr. and Timothy.
He is survived by one daughter, Susan (Kevin) Collins of Peoria; three sons, Michael of Woodridge, Ill., Thomas (Tina) of Dunlap and William (Mindy) of Mapleton; 10 grandchildren; one sister, Mary Ann (Ceril) Bohne of Dane, Wis.; two brothers, Robert (Mary Kay) of Chicago and Frank (Joanne) of East Peoria; and two sisters-in-law, Georgia and Roberta.
Jack was a Navy veteran, serving during the Korean War.
He was a salesman for Burroughs Corporation, where he met his wife of 51 years.
Jack was a member of St. Philomena Catholic Church and served as president of the Holy Family School Board.
He was an active gardener, enjoyed boating and reading military history.
A memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11, 2014, at St. Philomena Catholic Church. Father David Richardson will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, 2014, at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. An additional visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the Mass at the church. Cremation rites have been accorded. Burial of ashes will be in St. Mary Cemetery.
