DUNLAP - Walter "Budd" Jacob, 79, of Dunlap died at 6:48 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8, 2014, surrounded by his family.

Budd was born in 1934 in Chicago, Ill., to Walter F. and Phyllis (Black) Jacob. He married Margaret G. Barry on Sept. 14, 1963.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Barry) Jacob; and three of his four children, George (Jeannine) Jacob, Margaret "Meg" Jacob and Paul (Amanda) Jacob. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Alexandra, Daniel, Jacob, George, Walter "Jake," Katherine, Kayla, Connor, Thomas and Bennett.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Walter F. Jacob; and his brother, John Black.

Budd began his career in 1952 at Anheuser-Busch in Chicago. He worked his way up to district manager and left the company in 1968 to buy Brewers Distributing Co. in Peoria. In 1974, he bought out his partner to become the sole owner. He was the president and CEO of Brewers Distributing Co. until 1998, but remained chairman of the board and was actively involved in the day-to-day business. He lived his life by the slogan of his company, "Making friends is our business."

Budd was always conscious of the needs of the Peoria area community, helping to fund and support many programs over the years. He felt, due to his humble roots, that corporate citizenship was important not only for himself and his family, but for his company as well.

He was an avid sports fan, including the Bulls, Blackhawks, White Sox and Bears. He was an excellent artist and enjoyed sketching and painting, especially at the beach. Budd was an outstanding husband, father and grandfather, known affectionately by his grandchildren as Papa.

A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014, at St. Jude Catholic Church. Father Patrick Henehan will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today, Aug. 11, 2014, also at the church. An additional visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
