Jean Powers Obituary

PEORIA - Jean A. Powers, 90, of Peoria died at 5:45 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014, at Rosewood Care Center in Peoria.

She was born March 18, 1924, in Peoria to C. Herman and Margaret Bolin Schulte. She married Erwin "Joe" H. Powers on Jan. 16, 1944, in Peoria. He died on June 19, 1988, in Peoria.

She was also preceded in death by her son, Forrest; grandson, Forrest III; brother, John; and sister, Sally.

Jean is survived by her three sons, Harley "Lee" (Jan) Powers of Pekin, Brad (Linda) Powers of Dunlap and Joe (Colleen) Powers of Olympia, Wash.; eight grandchildren, Christina Powers Warren (Patrick) of Altadena, Calif., Deborah Powers of Seattle, Wash., Ryan Lee Powers of Canton, Jennifer (Nick) Jones of Arlington Heights, Ill., Jamie (Joey) Stipek of Norman, Okla., Scott (fiancee, Hannah Schrader) Powers of St. Louis, Mo., Megan (Brian) Temple of Olympia, Wash., and Joseph (Priscilla) Powers of Olympia, Wash.; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Herman "Sandy" (Mary) Schulte of Williamsville, Ill.; one sister, Loris "Susie" (Clyde) Meeker of Mediapolis, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

She worked for Retail Credit Company of Peoria for many years.

Jean was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Peoria. She was a past regent of National Society of Daughters of American Revolution and a member of Illinois Cameo Society of the DAR. She was also a member of the Peoria Historical Society, National Society of Colonial Dames, North Peoria Women's Club and Grand Prairie Colony of the Society of Mayflower Descendants.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014, at The Wilton Mortuary in Peoria, where visitation will be one hour prior. The Rev. Douglas Lightly will officiate. Interment is to take place in Parkview Cemetery in Peoria.

Memorials may be made to Daughters of the American Revolution, Rosewood Care Center of Peoria or The Christian Center of Peoria.
